Appendix Backgrounds
Below you may find some additional character backgrounds specific to the campaign and its characters, these may be use instead of the existing backgrounds or simply to augment them to your personal liking. It is highly encouraged that you take a look at these or otherwise take some inspiration from them if you wish to add to your immersion in the story. And by all means, if you come up with something yourself or choose to alter one of these to fit your design, then do so with full authority.
- You are an agent or former member of one of the five major factions listed upon the website, drawn to the city of Iriabor in order to investigate the tailings of this new threat. You will receive special information relative to the faction chosen. Be sure to pick a faction that interests you and that you believe will be relevant towards your character's direction in the world. Taking this optional background augment will put you in knowledge of several imporant characters you may meet later on.
- The end is near. You’ve read the signs and you’re sure it will happen, you just can’t pinpoint exactly when. That’s why you’re not taking any chances. For the past few months (or years), you’ve started stocking up on supplies and even weapons, preparing for that inevitable time in the near future when society as you know it would collapse into a blood-drenched heap of anarchy. It’s not enough that you stay put and wait for things to happen. You monitor the world for signs and omens, and you’ve most likely taken a pro-active approach to make sure that your knowledge of what’s to come gets to as many people as possible—as long as you think they’re trustworthy, of course.
- In years previous to the adventure's beginning, you held a small friendship with a half-elf noble by the name of Talis Kastarel from an estate in the Grey Peak Mountains. Though you remember her to be quite arrogant and selfish in nature, you owe some manner of respect to her for a form of beneficial aid she granted you. At the time of the campaign, the last you have heard of her is that House Kastarel has fallen from the height of its wealth in the wake of her father's death and that Talis herself has taken the matter into her own hands, often traveling to various points of economic interest throughout the Sword Coast to regain the power she once held.
- You are a Knight Errant to the Order of Purple Knights from the foreign land of Cormyr just to the East, with the recent arrival of arguably the most famous of the Order, Ser Isteval to oversee rulership of Daggerford at the bequest of the Lords' Alliance, you followed him as squire. But Isteval's coming to the Sword Coast was not entirely without cause, and so did he send you on a noble quest to gather as much information upon the whispers of cultists in Iriabor as you could and report back to him via letter.
- As a member of the secretive Arcane Brotherhood, for many years you have searched through the denizens of ancient ruins to compile a knowledge on the previous history of Toril, learning of the age of dragons that stretched across the world whole before their fall. You have been brought to the city of Iriabor by a resurgence of artifacts from that time being sold, and have come to discover more about the fabled beings of the past that interest your scholarly pursuits so greatly. Taking this background will ensure that you know some lore about dragons, as well as maintaining contact with other such experts on the creatures.
- You have a secret. You once were a gold dragon who served Bahamut. You were too proud and vain, to the point that Bahamut decided to teach you a leason. You have been trapped in a weak, humanoid body, with your memories of your former life but a dim shadow. You remember only one thing with perfect clarity: Bahamut's command to go into the world and prove your devotion to the cause of good. If you prove worthy, you will return to his side in your true form.
- You and your family were once members of the mysterious Cult of Dragons, until your rivals within the ranks arranged to wipe you out after you parents stood in resistance to some of the newer ideas. Though they slaughtered your kin, you survived without their knowledge, and now you seek vengeance. Perhaps you were born into their cause without thought, or perhaps you once supported their dark machinations, but now the desire for vengeance burns deeper than anything else. You set out with a hit-list that contains three names: a half-dragon named Rezmir, a human male named Galvan, and the powerful Calishite human, Severin Silrajin.
